About the event

Join The Scarlet Tongue Project and Mitzie Gibson Photography for an evening of open mic poetry, storytelling, and photography!

Calling all models! Yes, that's you ;) Mitzie will be setting up a booth where womxn attending can have their portrait taken while in a state of anger. These portraits (with consent-- there will be release form there to sign) will be collected as part of a larger installation to be displayed later in 2019, showcasing the diversity of what anger can look like. We strongly encourage queer womxn and WOC of all ages to participate!

While you wait to have your portrait taken, we will have an open mic available for storytelling and poetry. We would love to hear from you!

We will also be setting up various letter-writing stations for you to interact with throughout the evening. Why letters? This is a great way to communicate, get our thoughts out, express ourselves, and make a difference in our communities and local government. With everything happening in the world right now, allow your anger to use this tool to have a voice. Write a letter to your congressmen and representatives, write to a local business or organization, write to incarcerated mothers, write to a family member, write a letter to your crush or partner/s, and even write a letter to yourself! Always wanted to do this but never have the time to get to the post office? We'll also have stamps available, and can even mail them for you if you so choose.

Bring your friends, or come solo and make new friends. Share some stories, share your art, and let your voice be heard!

Sliding scale for entry is $5 - $15 at the door. A portion of the profits from the evening will go toward the ACLU and the Yellowhammer Fund.

Guest artists and more details will be shared closer to the event. This is a gender inclusive event, and as always we seek to create safe space with all intersections of marginalized folx and allies ♥
